Frequently Asked Questions for Community Organizations and Businesses
Who can use Peachjar?
Peachjar is available to:
- Local, state, and federal government agencies and departments
- Non-profit organizations that offer educational, recreational, cultural or character development activities or programs for school-aged children, including but not limited to scouts, YMCA or YWCA, organized youth sport leagues, etc.
- School/business partnerships or incentive programs that directly enhance or support the school’s educational program
- Community colleges, universities, and other non-profit institutions of higher education.
Can for-profit businesses participate?
Generally, no. Dare County Schools does not allow advertising or promotional materials from for-profit businesses.
There is an exception for free resources, programs or events that directly benefit students and families or business partnerships the enhance or support the school's educational program.
For example, a business may be eligible to share information about a free dental clinic or another free community service or an internship opportunity through an approved business partner.
Does it cost anything to distribute a flyer?
Nonprofit organizations that charge a fee for their programs or events must create a Peachjar account and submit their flyers through the platform.
Peachjar charges a $25 distribution fee per school. Organizations can select which schools they would like to receive their flyer.
What if my flyer promotes a free resource or event?
If your flyer promotes a free resource, program or event for families, please contact Hannah Nash to review and upload your flyer.
Examples may include:
- Free community events hosted by local governments
- Free clothing or supply drives for students
- Free health or wellness resources
- Free educational programs or activities
We want to make sure families don't miss out on valuable free opportunities in our community.
What if my organization is a nonprofit but our event charges a fee?
That's okay. Nonprofit organizations may use Peachjar to promote fee-based programs and events, provided the flyer meets Dare County Schools' guidelines (Policy Code: 5210 Distribution and Display of Non-School Material).
A Peachjar account is required, and the applicable distribution fee is $25 per school.
My flyer was denied, even though my event is held at a school in Dare County
Organizations may rent school facilities for an event. If the event charges a fee or is for-profit, the promotional flyer is not approved for distribution. This includes camps or athletic programs that are for-profit.
Can a business use Peachjar to promote a fundraiser where a portion of the proceeds benefits a school?
No. Peachjar is not available for businesses to promote fundraisers in which a portion of the proceeds is donated to a school, PTO/PTA or school-related organization.
To be approved for distribution on Peachjar, school fundraisers should be organized and hosted soley by the school or its PTO/PTA rather than by the participating business.
Are there other restrictions on flyers?
Yes. All flyers must comply with Dare County Schools Board of Education policies and flyer distribution guidelines.
Flyers may not include references to or promote alcohol or illegal activities involving students. This also applies to fundraisers or events held at bars, taverns, clubs or other establishments where students are not permitted to participate.
If you are unsure whether your flyer meets the guidelines, please contact Hannah Nash before submitting it.
How effective is Peachjar?
Peachjar emails have an average open rate of approximately 63%, compared with an average email marketing open rate of approximately 16%.
This means Peachjar can provide organizations with a direct way to reach families in the schools they select. Peachjar also provides a dashboard with metrics on deliveries, views, and actions taken, so organizations can see whether their flyer is reaching families and driving registrations or sign-ups.
How do I get started?
Eligible organizations can create a Peachjar account and submit their flyer for review.
