Homebound Instruction Services
Homebound services are provided in an effort to assist students in maintaining academic progress when they are physically/medically unable to participate in the regular school day over an extended period of time. Homebound services, including work and/or assignments, are temporary and do not duplicate classroom instruction. Homebound services do not include work missed prior to receiving homebound services approval.
A student is required to be enrolled in DCS to qualify for homebound services. Services may be provided for a student who is expected to be confined for more than three weeks of medical treatment, psychological conditions, or convalescence. The student’s inability to attend school must be certified by a primary care physician and/or a mental health professional. If the condition is related to mental health conditions such as anxiety, the recommendation for home services must be part of a comprehensive mental health care plan that includes a transition back to school. In some cases, a student’s IEP or 504 team may determine that home-based instruction is needed.
For further information regarding homebound instruction services, please contact your student’s school counselor or the school-based IEP contact.
