Parents and Guardians:
As we prepare for the 2026-2027 school year, we want to share an important update regarding graduation requirements for our rising high school students.
In accordance with North Carolina Session Law 2023-132, House Bill 8, all students entering the 9th grade for the first time in the 2026-2027 school year are now required to complete at least one approved computer science course to earn their high school diploma.
To support our students in meeting this requirement early and with flexibility, our district is taking a proactive approach. Beginning next school year, we are adding two high school-level computer science courses to our middle school curriculum.
- Earn High School Credit Early: Students who successfully complete one of these courses in middle school will fulfill the state’s graduation requirement before they even step foot into high school.
- High School Options: We will continue to offer a variety of approved computer science courses at the high school level that satisfy this requirement as well.
This requirement ensures our graduates are equipped with the digital literacy and problem-solving skills essential for the modern workforce and higher education.
If you have any immediate questions, please contact your student’s guidance counselor or visit the NC Department of Public Instruction website to learn more [Computer Science Graduation Requirements].
