Lee Hux receives Teacher of Excellence award presented by Dare County Schools leaders.

Dare County Schools is proud to announce that Mrs. Lee Hux, an outstanding educator at First Flight Elementary School, has been selected as the recipient of this year’s Teacher of Excellence Award for her exceptional service to students with special needs.

A veteran teacher in the Exceptional Children’s (EC) program, Mrs. Hux has earned the respect and admiration of her colleagues, students, and families throughout the school community. Her unwavering commitment to education, even in the face of personal health challenges, is nothing short of inspiring. While bravely battling cancer, Mrs. Hux continued to demonstrate resilience, compassion, and professionalism—always going above and beyond to teach and care for her students.

Described by the district’s support team as a “calming presence for both students and parents,” Mrs. Hux exemplifies the values celebrated by the Teacher of Excellence Award. The honor recognizes educators who go the extra mile in their work with students with disabilities, always upholding the dignity and unique needs of each learner.

In addition to her classroom work, Mrs. Hux serves on the School Improvement Team at First Flight Elementary. Her leadership and advocacy were instrumental in helping the school’s fifth-grade EC students exceed their growth targets during the 2024–2025 academic year. This achievement highlights both her instructional impact and her deep understanding of student needs.

Dr. Reida Roberts, Director of Exceptional Children Services, shared her congratulations, stating, “Mrs. Hux is an inspiration to us all. We are proud to have her as part of our team and grateful for this opportunity to celebrate her invaluable contributions to our school and community.”

Dare County Schools extends heartfelt congratulations to Mrs. Hux for this well-deserved recognition and thanks her for her continued dedication to excellence in education.
