Dare County Schools is proud to announce Jessica Polk as the district’s Outstanding Secondary Math Teacher of the Year. Polk, a math teacher at Cape Hatteras Secondary School, received the award at the North Carolina Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCCTM) Annual State Conference.
“Jessica exemplifies excellence in mathematics education by fostering a culture of curiosity, confidence, and perseverance. Her classroom is a welcoming and supportive environment where students are encouraged to embrace both the challenges and joys of learning mathematics,” said Dare County Schools Math Coordinator Dawn Tillett.
Beyond the classroom, Jessica is an active team member and leader in her school community. She serves in multiple leadership roles, including Class Sponsor, Math Professional Learning Community (PLC) Chair, Academically and Intellectually Gifted (AIG) Coordinator, National Honor Society Advisor, and Science Olympiad Coach. Each year, she transforms her classroom into a hub of innovation and collaboration as she prepares students for the Science Olympiad, a rigorous academic competition centered on mathematics, science, engineering, and technology.
“Jessica Polk represents the very best of Dare County Schools. She has a unique ability to challenge and inspire her students while building meaningful relationships that support their growth. Her leadership and dedication make a lasting impact on both her students and her colleagues. She is a true leader in our district and a shining example of outstanding mathematics instruction,” said Dare County Schools Assistant Superintendent Caitlin Spruill.
Dare County Schools extends its sincere appreciation to Jessica for her dedication, leadership, and commitment to student success. Through her efforts, she not only strengthens mathematics instruction but also creates meaningful opportunities for students to excel both inside and outside the classroom.
