Made possible by the generosity of the Dare Education Foundation and its donors, Dare County Schools is able to offer two teaching housing complexes in Kill Devil Hills and Hatteras. Interest-free loans from the North Carolina State Employees Credit Union Foundation facilitated the construction of both projects. Rented below market value, these 2-bedroom, 2-bath units are an affordable option for teachers.

Run Hill Ridge and Hatteras Teacher Housing

Run Hill Ridge is a 24-unit apartment complex located adjacent to the First Flight Schools campus in Kill Devil Hills. Hatteras Teacher Housing is a 12-unit complex located adjacent to the soccer field and the former Coast Guard station.

Utilities and Services

To make your transition smoother, here is a list of essential utilities and services:

• Electricity Provider: Dominion Energy - Establish a residential account. The energy bill will be in your name, and typically that bill arrives monthly.
• Water and Sewer Provider: Town of Kill Devil Hills - The town of Kill Devil Hills keeps the water bills in the owner’s name and sends bills to your physical address. Billing happens every three months. If you receive the bill that includes a period of time before your occupancy, please send a copy of it as soon as possible to barbara@dareeducationfoundation.org so that we may pro-rate the bill.
• Internet and Cable: Spectrum
• Trash and Recycling: A trash dumpster is located by the 9th Avenue property entrance. An attended Recycle Center is located at 701 Bermuda Bay Boulevard (off Colington Road). Hours of operation are Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. and Saturday 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. No decal is required for use of the Recycle Yard. • $1,050 per month
