The academic calendars for Dare County Schools are designed by a calendar committee and approved two years in advance by the Board of Education. The 2021-2023 calendars were approved by the Board of Education at the February 9, 2021 meeting. The Board of Education often makes additional amendments to the calendars based on weather and other circumstances. See below for the most current version of the calendar.
On December 14, 2021, the Board approved proposed changes to the 2021-22 school calendar in the second semester. A summary of the changes are as follows:
- The Board of Elections has requested the use of several school facilities as polling sites for the midterm primary elections. This is scheduled to occur on May 17, 2022. An optional workday has been added to the calendar to accommodate this request.
- Dare County Schools elementary teachers will be participating in required training aligned with the Statewide “Science of Reading” literacy initiative and Read to Achieve. The 2021-22 academic calendar adds a required workday on January 25, 2022, adds an optional workday on March 7, 2022, shifting the required workday/teacher conference day to March 8, 2022 (for continuity), and converts an early dismissal day on March 25, 2022 to a required workday. See attached new amended calendar.
