NCDOT Aviation Art Contest - Two Dare County Students Going on the National Competition
2014 N.C. Aviation Art Contest Winners Announced
Raleigh

More than 400 budding young artists representing 74
towns and 50 schools across the state submitted their
take on the theme “Flying Saves Lives,” through NCDOT’s
Division of Aviation’s 2014 North Carolina Aviation Art
Contest. A judging panel has selected the winning entries
which will advance to compete on the national and
international levels.

“This contest is intended to get a younger generation
interested in the many aspects of aviation, including the
important role it plays in our society,” said Division of
Aviation Director Bobby Walston. “We hope this provided
a fun learning experience to each talented student who
participated, and we sincerely congratulate the winners.”

Judges looked for originality, adherence to the theme
and overall aesthetics. All artwork used watercolors and
acrylic/oil paint.

The top three entries in three age groups will represent
North Carolina in the national contest, sponsored by the
National Aeronautic Association (NAA), the National
Association of State Aviation Officials (NASAO), the
Federal Aviation Administration, and Embry-Riddle

Aeronautic University of Prescott, Ariz.  The national
winners will then be in line for an international competition
sponsored by the Federation Aeronautique Internationale,
which was established in 1905 to promote air sports.
